Lyocell, as a cellulose fiber, requires collaboration across the entire industry chain and breakthroughs in new technologies in application areas to transform into competitive consumer products. Representatives from various sectors of the industry chain, including Ms. Sherry Li, Market Director of Sateri Group, Mr. Chen Zongli, Chairman of Xinhuayuan, Mr. Yang Zhizhuo, Director of Applied Technology at Guangdong Dymatic, Mr. Gong Huairui, Chief R&D Director of Luolai Life Technology Co., Ltd., and Mr. Qian Longjie, R&D Center Manager of Zhejiang MIZUDA, discussed at the 4th Lyocell Industry Forum on how Lyocell fibers can better tailor their development path.
Host Hua Qiyin from Huarui Information: Following the industry chain from raw materials to end products, as mentioned in the previous reports in the cotton spinning field, combining the downstream reports, let's invite Sateri's Ms. Li to share if there are new partners in the research and production of other specifications and the promotion of these varieties.
Sateri's Ms. Li: Differentiation in Lyocell remains challenging due to closed-loop production technology, making it difficult to add new additives which would increase recycling costs. Lyocell products are high-priced, hindering their applications. In terms of promotion, tailoring fibers for different downstream applications, developing targeted fibers, reducing fiber links, increasing functionality, adding new additives, and ensuring sustainable development are key.
Host: Thank you, Ms. Li. We know that Xinhuayuan is one of the top enterprises in domestic yarn capacity and Lyocell yarn output. Mr. Chen has been continuously improving yarn quality and promoting Lyocell. We are eager to hear Mr. Chen's insights.
Xinhua Yuan's Mr. Chen: Lyocell fibers belong to the third generation of new fibers, combining advantages of the previous two generations with its own strengths. The future development is promising with high Lyocell fiber recycling rates of 97-98%, leading to almost similar costs to downstream fabric production. The application of Lyocell fibers has been rapidly growing this year, with continuous breakthroughs in product technology, especially among leading enterprises.
Host: Thank you, Mr. Chen. Now let's hear from Mr. Yang. For companies without experience in dyeing Lyocell fabrics, can Dymatic help them produce Lyocell fabrics smoothly and quickly?
Dymatic's Mr. Yang: Dymatic is expanding its layout in other businesses while focusing on its main business, integrating upstream raw materials and downstream products. With mature dyeing processing technology, Dymatic has rich technical reserves. Lyocell has broad applications in new fields, emphasizing physical properties. The future direction is to expand its advantages and mitigate disadvantages.
Host: Thank you, Mr. Yang. The production of pure spun yarn and blended yarn in Lyocell is not limited to compact siro-spinning, but also includes vortex spinning and air-jet spinning, leading to a variety of fabrics. As an expert in dyeing, Mr. Qian, do you have any insights on handling diverse Lyocell fabrics?
MIZUDA's Mr. Qian: Compared to other fibers, initial processing costs for Lyocell are higher due to different production processes. However, with improved processing techniques, a variety of products can be produced for customer selection. Once the supply matures, processing costs will continue to decrease. Currently, the primary issue is Lyocell's fiberization, with variations in different batches, posing challenges in market promotion. Stable products from upstream suppliers are crucial for meeting demand.
Host: Thank you, Mr. Qian. The continuous improvement in each sector has contributed to the growth of Lyocell. In the past few years, Lyocell has seen a booming market in home textile fabrics. As Mr. Gong mentioned various applications, what are your predictions for the market share of Lyocell compared to cotton, viscose, and other fibers in the home textile sector in the future?
Luolai's Mr. Gong: The promotion of domestic products shows confidence with significant room for future development. However, current technologies still have flaws. Luolai does not export but only imports fabrics, requiring high product quality. Stable technology poses challenges in promotion, we will emphasize the need to address actual problems from the consumer's perspective.
Host: Thank you, Mr. Gong. The Lyocell market is rapidly expanding with improving quality and increasing varieties. As downstream challenges are gradually addressed, processing costs decrease, indicating the potential for Lyocell to become the fourth major textile raw material after cotton, polyester, and viscose. Representatives from various sectors of the industry chain remain positive and confident about the future Lyocell market.
