Lyocell industry development prospect in the 14th Five-Year Plan period

In the first part, Mr. Zhang Zixin introduced the industrialization process of Lyocell. Lyocell fiber is the third largest regenerated cellulose fiber product after viscose fiber and acetate fiber. In 2021, the global output was about 370Kt and accounted for about 5% of the regenerated cellulose fiber market share. Lyocell fiber (especially in China) has grown rapidly. Since Shanghai Rio 1000t/a test line was put into production in 2006, Sanyou, Sateri and other latecomers have successively deployed the lyocell industry. In 2021, lyocell fiber market supply reached about 190Kt and the growth rate of market demand was about 30%.
In the second part, Mr. Zhang introduced the challenges in the industry’s development mainly from the aspects of cost, product and application. From the perspective of cost, there is still room for further reduction of energy cost. Another important factor in reducing the cost is the optimization of NMMO solvent production and recycle technology.
In the third part, Mr. Zhang introduced the high-quality development direction of the industry. Judging from the lyocell’s application in the non-woven fabric field, the popularization of wet wipes, soft wipes and other products in domestic market will be promoted with the reduction of cellulose fiber price, the strengthening of green consumption awareness and the consumption habit of wiping amid epidemic Covid-19. The application ratio of cellulose fibers in Chinese spunlace nonwovens industry still has a lot of room for improvement in the future, and it is expected to reach 55% in 2025. The facial mask is a fast-growing sub-industry in the cosmetics industry, and it is also one of the downstream industries with the best penetration of lyocell fibers.
In the fourth part, Mr. Zhang briefly introduced the future work direction of the Lyocell branch conference. In terms of technical support, improve the standard system of industrial chain; in terms of market expansion, mainly focus on the trend research on lyocell fiber application; green and low-carbon is for the building of green brands, and replace some or even all raw materials with sustainable raw materials.
